Overview

SpotMe is a cash-advance product wrapped in a mobile-first consumer brand. The pitch on the landing page is the product in one line: 'Need cash for your next position? Get spotted up to $1,000.' Users sign up on mobile, get approved, and receive a spot when they need one. The web app is the companion surface, but the native iOS and Android apps are the primary experience.

The challenge

Consumer fintech with parallel native and web clients usually splits into two teams that drift apart within a quarter. The Spot 'em founding team wanted both surfaces to evolve at the same cadence without two backends, two type systems, or two release calendars. A spot transaction also has to feel instant on mobile while reconciling against the database on the server: optimistic on the client, exact on the backend, never out of sync.

What we built

One backend serves all three surfaces with the same typed API. The native apps and the web app share authentication, state shapes, and feature timelines: a new feature lands in the API once, both surfaces pick it up the same day. The visual identity is a deliberately consumer-mobile move: dark forest-green and warm cream, large lowercase display type, the entire UI feels like an app first and a website second. The web surface exists to convert and onboard; the apps are where the relationship lives.
